rice field with its partitions called galengan
This is a typical rice field you can find in Java. Land cultivation is primarily done by tractors nowadays. In the past, farmers used to use a hoe or employ buffaloes which helped them draw their garu. To harvest the crops, they used to use ani-ani, which is now replaced with machinery.

Farmers usually put on their special cap called caping to protect themselves from the sun ray.

soya bean plants in the field
In addition to rice, farmers plant many other crops, such as soya beans. Soya beans are the main ingredients to produce tempe, the people's main nourishment.
